5 Final Fantasy Characters for Smash Bros.

One of the most anticipated features of Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the inclusion of third-party characters in a series that was previously made up entirely of Nintendo’s first-party characters. Unfortunately, many people (myself included) were disappointed when they learned that Sonic and Snake would be the only playable third party characters after originally hearing that the developers planned to include more than two.

Once again, with new Smash Bros. games on the horizon, I am hoping that additional third party characters are added, and there is one long running series with a huge collection of characters to choose from: Final Fantasy.

The Simplification of Fighting Games

Fighting games have traditionally been only for the most dedicated players. From the beginning, fighting games have always used button combinations that require more skill than most video games. Skilled players have mastered complicated techniques that the majority of players will never understand or care to understand.

For a while, the fighting genre was stagnant with few new and noteworthy releases and no improvements being made. However, the last few years has seen an influx of quality fighting games that still provide the complex gameplay fans expect, but the games also include new features meant to make the games more accessible to new players.

As with any change, there are plenty of people who aren’t thrilled about simplifying the games, but after playing these games myself I am happy with where the genre is going.

5 Swordsman for Super Smash Bros.

At E3 2011, Satoru Iwata announced that following the completion of Kid Icarus: Uprising Masahiro Sakurai and his team at Sora would begin work on two new Super Smash Bros. games (one for the Nintendo 3DS and one for WiiU). So, once again it is time to begin looking at all the possible characters that could be added to the next games in the series.

When I began thinking of possibilities, the first characters I thought of were all swordsman, so I’ve decided to begin my Super Smash Bros. speculation with five swordsman. Naturally, there are plenty of non-swordsman who could also be added, so I intend for this article to be the first of many discussing the possibilities for the new Super Smash Bros. games.

E3 2011: What I Want From Nintendo

E3 is just a couple of weeks one week away, so it’s time to start thinking about what to expect. Rumors are already flying and everyone is making predictions. Now, it’s my turn. Rather than making predictions based on rumors from questionable sources, I’m going to detail what I want to see at E3 this year. I may venture into the “this will probably never happen, but I want it” zone a bit, but this year there is plenty to be excited about without making wild guesses.

I’ve already looked at what Sony and Microsoft could have to offer this year at E3, and now it’s time to talk about Nintendo. We already know that Nintendo will be announcing a new gaming console this year and that the console will be playable on the show floor. But Nintendo is famous for making surprise announcements that no one expected, so there are tons of possibilities.
